PL23XX USB-to-Serial Driver

Overview

PL23XX is the driver for Prolific PL2303 USB-to-serial cables (such as UGREEN USB-to-serial cables), commonly used to connect serial communication devices such as probe stations and source meters to a computer USB port — for example, the control connection of the probe station and source meter in an EQE measurement system.

Applicable Scenarios

• Probe station serial communication (e.g. EL-PS probe station working with software);
• Source meter serial connection;
• Other serial devices converted to USB connection.

• Operating system: Windows 10/11 x64;
• Interface: USB 2.0/3.0.

Installation Instructions

1. Download and extract the driver archive (about 2MB);
2. Right-click and run the installer as administrator;
3. Follow the wizard to complete the installation;
4. Plug in the USB-to-serial cable after installation completes;
5. Open Device Manager and confirm the corresponding COM port number appears under "Ports (COM & LPT)";
6. Configure this COM port as the device communication port in the measurement software.

FAQ

Q: Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation mark after plugging in?
A: This is usually caused by a driver version mismatch. Uninstall the old driver and reinstall this driver, and make sure the installation runs with administrator privileges.

Q: How do I confirm the COM port number for the serial cable?
A: Open Device Manager → expand "Ports (COM & LPT)"; the COM number corresponding to PL2303 in the list is the port number. The port number may change when plugged into different USB ports.

Q: The software reports that the port is occupied?
A: Close other programs occupying that COM port (such as serial debugging tools), or change to another COM port and retry.
